What the modifiers mean

The modifier under each figure is doing more work than the figure. A number on its own reads as a recurring charge until you see how often it is actually taken.

Driver licence check — £1.99 per check

Taken when a check actually runs against the DVLA. This is the only figure most fleets look at, because on a settled fleet it is most of the bill.

Digital D906 authorisation — £1.00 once every three years

The D906 mandate is what permits the DVLA to release a driver's record, and it lasts three years. This is charged once, when the driver authorises, and not again until the mandate is renewed. Read across a three-year cycle it is the smallest line here, which is not how it reads written down as a single figure — which is the whole reason the modifier sits underneath it.

Business insurance validation — £1.00 only when a document is verified

Charged at the point a certificate is verified. Holding a document costs nothing, and neither does reminding a driver that theirs is about to expire.

Vehicle MOT & VED — £1.00 once, when checked

MOT and tax status for a vehicle, taken when the vehicle is checked rather than on a subscription.

NI & foreign licence check — £5.00 per manual check

This one is not automated because it cannot be: the DVLA's service does not answer for a Northern Ireland or non-GB licence, so the check is done by hand. It costs more than the others because it takes somebody's time rather than an API call. It is also the alternative to the thing most fleets do with these drivers, which is nothing.

Self-managed, and priced accordingly

You administer your own fleet through the portal: adding drivers, putting them into groups, setting how often each group is checked, sending the D906 invitations, and seeing what comes back. Nobody does that for you — and that is precisely why the list above is the whole list.

• Everything that can reach your invoice is on this page. There is no line item anywhere else, and nothing appears on a bill that is not listed above.
• No platform fee and no administration fee. You are not paying anyone to run your fleet for you, because you are running it.
• Free initial set-up. Getting started costs nothing.
• No tie-in contract. You are not committing to a term, and your driver data leaves with you.
• Pay only for what you use. Every line above is charged on something happening, so a quiet month costs less than a busy one. There is no floor to fall through and no allowance to use up.
• A record is not an event. Adding a driver or a vehicle is not charged for, and a driver who never authorises never costs anything.

It is worth being plain about this before you sign up rather than after. If what you want is a managed service where somebody else chases your drivers for their authorisations, this is not that. What it is instead is software that makes the job quick enough to keep doing: invitations go out in bulk, drivers authorise themselves on their phones, the schedule runs on its own, and you are told when something changes rather than having to go and look for it.

Leaving

There is no minimum term and no notice period to serve out. Tell us you are going, and your driver data comes with you as a CSV export: forename, surname, date of birth, gender, email address, town, postcode, employee number, licence number, driver group and penalty points.

Worth knowing before rather than after: the signed D906 authorisations stay with us. The DVLA requires anyone who checks a driving licence to keep the driver’s signed authorisation for two years from the enquiry — Schedule 4, clause 1.3 of the Access to Driver Data agreement — so that every enquiry can be shown to have been lawfully made.

Keeping them is a duty we carry for you rather than a hold over you. They are the evidence that the checks you ran were authorised, and a provider who deleted them on request would be leaving you without it.
